The River Clay Fine Arts Festival Returns to Downtown Decatur Sept. 28 & 29

Held on the 4th weekend in September each year in beautiful downtown Decatur, River Clay Fine Arts Festival offers participating artists from all over the country the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work right here in the Tennessee Valley. The juried festival includes an artist market featuring more than 65 regional and national artists, professional chalk art, art demonstrations, children’s art activities, student art exhibits, food trucks, music, and much, much more. Situated on the beautiful, park-like setting of Decatur’s city hall campus, the festival offers a destination for visiting art enthusiasts and area residents to shop for art and experience creativity on display.

River Clay Rendezvous

River Clay’s opening night event offers a festive night of food, drink and art. River Clay Rendezvous attendees get the first opportunity to browse the River Clay Artist Market before the festival opens to the public. In addition, attendees will enjoy music and great food provided by local restaurants! River Clay Rendezvous opens at 5pm on the City Hall Campus site.

Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased here.

Chalk Art

New for 2019, River Clay will feature professional chalk artists creating their works of art in front of your eyes. The artists will begin on Saturday and finish Sunday. Festival attendees will have the chance to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award for their favorite chalk art piece.

Artist Demonstrations

River Clay attendees can observe the artistic process through various artist demonstrations scheduled throughout the festival. Whether watching a potter throw clay, a painter paint or a woodworker turn wood, visitors will enjoy watching creativity in action.

Student Art Exhibits

In addition to experienced artists, River Clay celebrates up-and-coming artists as well. Festival-goers will enjoy seeing the varied works of students from Decatur City Schools and Morgan County Schools.

Children’s Art Activities

Children are welcome at River Clay! Young and Young-at-Heart will enjoy the many children’s art activities available during the festival. Coordinated by a group of fun, creative artists and art teachers, participants of all ages will love the opportunity to create with friends and family.
