The tradition was begun on September 11, 1975, by Curt Estes, Winfield Chamber of Commerce, and Max Brasher, Sr., to honor the hard working mules of the day. The tradition contineus to this day.

52nd Annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention

This annual event, where the Alabama State Fiddle Champion is crowned brings some 200 contestants and an estimated 15,000 folk music fans to the grounds of historic Athens State University.
