Huntsville Ballet Unplugged featuring – The Letter

It is extremely rare to see the words “American Civil War” and “ballet” in the same sentence.  That is just one of the things making the Huntsville Ballet Company’s Unplugged performance notably unique this year.

The featured ballet is titled The Letter based upon a letter written during the Civil War by a major in the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry, Sullivan Ballou.  On July 14, 1861, Ballou took the time to write a letter home to his wife, Sarah.  The words he wrote that day are recognized as some of the most poignant and touching words ever written by a soldier serving in a war-time army.  Ballou’s letter is even more moving when you realize that he was killed in battle just one week later when his regiment was involved in the First Battle of Manassas.  The Huntsville Ballet Company has prepared a special ballet to this letter with words and song provided by special guest soprano Christie Webber.

Unplugged 2018 will also include dance performed to the music of country music legend Patsy Cline.  We can also look forward to seeing contemporary ballet choreographed by local choreographer, Gina Guerrera.

Unplugged 2018 can be seen at the Von Braun Center on Friday, October 26th, at 7:30 PM.  Saturday, October 27th, at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM.  Then a final matinee performance on Sunday, October 28th, at 2:00 PM.  Tickets are priced at $25, $22, and $20 and may be purchased here.
