July 21st marks National Junk Food Day here in the United States.
And the people over at Zippia, a career networking company, used Google Trends to break down each state’s most beloved vending machine snack. They examined 45 different snacks including popular cookies, chips, candies, and other vending machine options. And some of their findings may surprise you…

According to Zippia, Alabama’s most popular vending machine snack is…Ruffles.
And though it doesn’t specifically say, we can only assume it’s the cheddar and sour cream flavor (because seriously, who eats plain Ruffles?).
Other popular snack food options across the country include Oreos, which took home the top spot in five states, and all the “itos” chips (Fritos, Doritos, and Cheetos) which made appearances on the map.
Suprinsgly, two of the most popular candies in M&M’s and Reese’s failed to rank as any state’s vending machine option of choice.
But looking at this list, we have three questions…
- Why does Alaska like granola bars so much?
- Come on, Texas. Funyuns? Really?
- Is there some Midwestern obsession with sunflower seeds that the rest of the country doesn’t know about?
So what do you think? Do you agree with this list? What’s your go-to snack?
