No need for a license – Saturday, June 13 is Alabama Free Fishing Day

Get those rods and reels ready because Saturday, June, 13, is Alabama Free Fishing Day!

This is a statewide event that encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the outstanding fishing opportunities of Alabama’s waters like Bass and Catfish rich waters of Limestone County’s Wheeler Lake and Elk River.

On this day, the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resource has designated ALL the public waters of Alabama free to fish recreationally without the need of a license. Lakes access fees and other misc fees will still apply. Free Fishing Day is part of National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs June 6-14.

This annual free fishing day is a great chance to hit Wheeler Lake, Alabama’s second-largest lake, which has been yielded record- and near-record breaking fish in the past.
