North Alabama Hidden Gems: Tigers for Tomorrow and Wills Creek Winery

Discover some of North Alabama's hidden gems!

Some of the state’s best kept secrets and hidden gems are located right here in North Alabama. From museums and hole-in-the-wall eats to wineries and animal preserves, we’ve got the spots you definitely need to see for yourself!

Tigers for Tomorrow – 708 Co Rd 345, Attalla, AL 35954

Tigers for Tomorrow is a unique place. It’s a non-profit wild animal preserve that is home to more than 160 animals, including tigers, mountain lions, African lions, bears, wolves, black leopards, foxes, and so much more. It’s a last stop preserve, so the animals live at the preserve for the rest of their lives. Many were rescued from circuses, zoos, or other individuals who were not able to care for them any longer. The staff takes care of each of their unique needs.

When you go to Tigers for Tomorrow, make sure you take a guided tour because not only will you learn a lot about the animals but you will also be able to take photos. And trust me, you will want to take photos to remember your experience. Visitors not on a guided tour are not allowed to take photos because in the past people have antagonized the animals in order to get photos, so photos are only allowed on guided tours.

Wear comfortable shoes and preferably shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

Check out www.tigersfortomorrow.org for directions, events, hours, and photos of the animals housed at the preserve. You will love your experience!

Wills Creek Winery – 10522 Duck Springs Rd, Attalla, AL, 35954

On any visit to the winery, you will find a variety of activities for wine and nature lovers alike. Wine tasting happens daily as well as many people choose their location for small special events such as birthday parties, family gatherings, bridal showers, girls and guys day out.

The winery location provides tranquil views of the vineyards, mountains, and the natural spring fed pond. Today the winery produces about 2,000 cases of wine annually that includes muscadine from the vineyard, locally grown fruit wines like blueberry and strawberry. There are flavored grape wines as well as red and white vinifera grape wines.

The Windmill is Wills Creek Vineyards event space that has been in operation since 2009. It is nestled near the beautiful vineyards just north of the winery. They offer an idyllic and natural setting for any kind of event from intimate gatherings to the grandest affairs. Tasting Room hours are: Mo- Sa 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
