Summer has finally arrived it’s time to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. I can’t think of any better way to bask in the sunshine then going on a picnic.
The Huntsville area has plenty of gorgeous venues for a romantic evening or a delightful family picnic.

Big Spring Park in Downtown

Big Spring Park might be the most popular place in Huntsville for a picnic. Located in the heart of Huntsville on Church Street, the park has a fantastic view near the pond with wildlife such as geese and ducks. The Norwegian Lighthouse and red bridge are also great landmarks. When in bloom, there are plenty of Japanese Cherry trees to help put a cherry on top of your picnic experience.

Monte Sano Park

Monte Sano State Park is located on Nolan Avenue on top of Monte Sano in East Huntsville. This eye-popping park sits on over 2,100 acres and has 20 miles of hiking trails. There will be great scenery throughout the year with the colorful leaves in the fall and the budding azaleas in the spring.

Huntsville Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens is a breath-taking spot for a picnic. They have so many trails and gardens with tons of colorful plant life that you will feel like you are surrounded by rainbows. There are plenty of picnic tables already set up so that the gardens can be easily appealing to the stomach as well as the eyes.

Green Mountain Nature Trail a.k.a. Madison County Nature Trail

The Madison County Nature Trail is located on Nature Trail Road in Southeast Huntsville on top of Green Mountain. This great little park has a 1.5 mile hiking trail with a closed bridge. The trail surrounds beautiful Sky Lake with an open-air pavilion and picnic area close by and a to eat and enjoy a nice quiet picnic with loved ones.

Burritt on the Mountain

Burritt is a historical mansion and park that overlooks the city of Huntsville on Monte Sano Mountain. The trails circle around Round Top Mountain and have plenty of beautiful plant and wildlife to enjoy as you picnic on top of the mountain and overlook our great city of Huntsville.

Rainbow Mountain Nature Preserve

Rainbow Mountain is located in Madison on Stoneway Trail. This gorgeous mountain overlooks the city of Madison and has 2.5 miles of trails and a shaded picnic shelter with a small playground.

Creekwood Park/Indian Creek Greenway

Creekwood Park is located on Harvestwood Ct. in Madison. The Park includes a 3 mile long paved greenway path with creeks and plenty of grass and picnic shelter to set up for a meal and watch people walk their dogs and play disc golf. Public bathrooms are available. There’s a large children’s playground and enclosed dog parks.

Ditto Landing

Ditto Landing is 560 Acres located on the Tennessee River. They are best known for their marina but there is also plenty of picnic tables set up under large trees for shade and a greenway along the river with plenty of grassy areas to relax and enjoy the view.
