One year after Popeyes launched its viral fried chicken sandwich, the fried chicken chain rolls out another new item, this time in the dessert category.
Popeyes restaurants across the country are adding chocolate beignets to the menu lineup starting Monday, Dec. 14, CNN Business reports.
The “New Orleans-style” fried pastries come filled with melted Hershey’s chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar. Participating Popeyes locations nationwide will offer the new item for a limited time.
Popeyes’ nationwide release of the New Orleans classic dessert comes after the fast-food chain tested the item in select markets back in late September. Reportedly, the beignets were tracked down on menus at Popeyes restaurants in Massachusetts, Foodbeast reported.
Now, Popeyes fans across the country can look out for this New Orleans staple at their nearest drive-thru.
Since beignets are known to create quite a mess, Popeyes is also launching a limited-edition “Beignet Camo” hoodie to “camouflage the inevitable mess.” The black hoodies are designed with “white splatters” that look like an intentional dusting of powder sugar but on your sportswear.
The fun feature is supposed to make it harder to tell that powered sugar spilled on your clothes while eating a beignet. The hoodies will be sold via a special website, ThatLookFromPopeyes.com for $35.
The new Chocolate Beignets are available nationwide for a limited time. Customers can get an order of three beignets for $1.99, six beignets for $3.99 or 12 for $7.49.
