One of the South’s best festivals: Franklin County Watermelon Festival

Kicking off this weekend is Franklin County’s largest festival dedicated to everyone’s favorite summer treat – the watermelon.

The 39th annual Franklin County Watermelon Festival gets underway in downtown Russellville August 16th and features two days of non-stop music and entertainment for the whole family.

Think you’re the best seed-spitter this side of the Mississippi? Now’s your chance to prove it at a festival-goer favorite, the watermelon seed spitting contest. Other contests include largest melon, best tasting melon and the always a crowd pleaser, best dressed melon.

Or maybe arts and crafts is more your speed. Or live music. Don’t worry, vendors will be lined up and down Main street with unique items you can’t find anywhere else, and the main stage will be rocking the entire weekend so make sure you bring your lawn chair.

Opening ceremonies kick-off at 5:45 on Friday and music starts at 6PM.

The best part of all this – it’s completely free! So bring the kiddos and experience one of the best festivals in the Tennessee Valley!
