Quarantine and chill? Netflix Party lets you remotely binge-watch with friends

You’re social distancing and watching a lot of Netflix. But binge-watching your favorite shows isn’t the same without your friends around to commentate. Well, a Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party allows groups of friends to get together virtually and watch Netflix titles on their computers at the same time.

Netflix Party synchronizes video playback and adds group chat to your favorite Netflix shows. Now, even in quarantine, you can still host movie nights and TV watch parties.

Of course, you need a Netflix subscription AND Google Chrome to take advantage of the program. The extension is free!

Here’s how it works:

1. Install Netflix Party

Click here to add the extension to your Google Chrome. Then, click “Add extension” in the pop-up window. Netflix Party will then be added to the top right corner of your Google Chrome browser, next to the address bar.

2. Open a Video in Netflix

Log into Netflix.com and select a show or movie you would like to watch.

3. Start a Party!

Click on the red “NP” icon located next to the address bar. Then click “Start Party” to get the party started. Share the party URL to invite friends. Of course, make sure your friends have Netflix Party added to their Google Chrome, as well.

4. Join a Party!

Once your friends open the link, they should log into Netflix and hit the “NP” button on their Google Chrome browsers. They should automatically join the party.

5. Quarantine and chill

At this point, you should be synced up. Binge your favorite TV episodes or get caught up in a flick. Use the chatroom to communicate. Customize your Netflix party by choosing a fun user icon and nickname. You can even upload screenshots, emojis and GIFs.
